So what are bad carbs?

Bad carbs are what we call refined carbohydrates. These are processed carbohydrates, which means that they are stripped of their most nutritious elements and are sugar and refined flour.

This may lead to rapid spikes in blood sugar and insulin, which can lead to future health issues such as diabetes and other chronic diseases.

Examples of refined carbohydrates are: Anything containing white flour such as; bread, bagels, pittas, tortillas Breakfast cereals, white rice, pizza waffles, pastries, pasta, dried fruits such as raisins or prunes, fruit juices, quick oats, honey roasted peanuts, ice cream, sweets, crisps, fizzy drinks, sweet wine etc.

So what are good carbs?

Good carbs are called unrefined carbs, which are foods rich in carbohydrates and are not processed.

These carbs are richer in nutrients and are much better for you.

Examples of unrefined carbohydrates are: Dark leafy vegetables, Garlic, Zucchini, Mushrooms, Fennel, cabbage, eggplant, celery, asparagus, berries, apples, pears, quinoa, brown rice, whole oats, walnuts, Brazil nuts, pumpkin seeds, legumes, whole milk, olives etc.

It is important that you remember it is ok to eat bad carbohydrates sometimes, but like with everything in life, you should always try to eat a balanced diet in order to get the right nutrients and support your body.
